Understanding Geo-Fencing in Geo-Cx
Geo-fencing is a technology that utilizes GPS to establish a virtual geographic boundary. This boundary enables software to automatically trigger specific actions when a mobile device crosses into or out of the designated area. In Geo-Cx, we leverage geo-fencing for various functions including enabling security alerts, facilitating location-based punch-ins, and executing automatic punch-outs when a device exits a predetermined zone.
Note: You won’t be allowed to punch in if you are outside the geo fenced area.
Quick Guide to Setting Up Geofencing with Google Maps
Search for Your Location: Open Google Maps and use the search function to find your project location.
Measure Distance: Place the cursor over the desired starting point and right-click to choose ‘Measure Distance’. Click again at various points around the initial location to measure the distance and establish your boundaries.
Set Boundaries: Based on the distances measured, select an appropriately large perimeter to prevent accidental exits from the project area.
Establish Geofence: The geofencing will create a circular boundary using the longest distance you measured as the radius.

Setting Unlisted Locations in Google Maps
For locations not readily available in Google Maps, you can use the Plus Code feature:
Access Location: Navigate to the general area in Google Maps.
Identify Coordinates: Right-click on the location and select ‘What’s here?’ from the context menu.
Copy Coordinates: Click on the modal that appears at the bottom of the screen to see the coordinates.
Use Plus Code: From the side menu, select and use the Plus Code displayed.
